Best golf courses in Vilamoura

Here’s a list of some of the top golf courses in Portugal, Vilamoura.

The Old Course Golf Club

Situated in the heart of Vilamoura, The Old Course Golf Club is one of the first established layouts in the region and highly respected within the golfing community. Known internationally for its layout and exquisite clubhouse, The Old Course is managed to ensure environmental protection practices have strictly adhered in order to preserve the magnificent layout for future generations.

Pinhal Golf Course

Pinhal Golf Course is situated in Vilamoura as a sister to the other four golf courses. It is laid out through the pine tree forest and is set back from the tourist beach area. The outward nine holes wander through the holiday villas that line the fairways. The well-positioned bunkers make the course very enjoyable for the players, testing their choice of clubs and their accuracy. The Par 4 on the fourth hole is difficult to achieve with water waiting for the erring shot. The Par 3 on the eighth of 149 meters is also trickier than it first appears. The back nine-holes have a more open feel but the slightly altered fifteenth will cause a problem to meet the Par 4 it requires.

The Laguna Golf Course

The 18 holes have been laid out over level ground and provide and with the exception of the eleventh and twelve that takes the player around and over a lake. It has open fairways for the player with very few trees to present difficulties. The Laguna Course can be likened to some degree to the challenges that are provided by a normal Links course. However, there are many water hazards with strategically placed bunkers in open terrain. These factors combined with the occasional strong wind make for an interesting round.

Millennium Golf Course

The course is particularly open, although some holes (the 3rd to the 7th) wind between pine trees and are similar to the neighboring fairways of the Old Course and Pinhal. In this more wooded area, the fairways are narrower and require greater accuracy - while the rest of the course has a clear landscape enriched by lakes at the 4th, 17th and 18th holes. The arrival of the Millennium Course made Vilamoura one of the main - if not the main - European golf destinations. Millennium Golf Course is a very good course with different holes some open and some tighter fairways. The back 9 is easier than the front 9, because of a few short par 4s. Buggy hire recommended as there can be quite a distance between holes
